Like the lungs of a smoker the Amazon rainforest , the Earth’s lungs are being systematically destroyed. Until the 1970′s the rainforest was largely inaccessible. But as the Brazilian government began its efforts to integrate the Amazon rainforest into the rest of the country by building an extensive roadway system of over 9000 miles the rain forest became accessible to logging and other industries which plundered the rain forest for its own advantage.
