Do you like the Great Outdoors, why not come to the Gold Coast, Queensland!!
I have been a local on the Gold Coast for the past 10 years and have found some really great daytrips from the Gold Coast. Here are a few examples of some really fun days out.
Mount Tamborine
Take a drive through the Gold Coast Hinterland to Mount Tamborine approx. hour drive from Surfers Paradise. If you go on a weekend or public holiday stop at Eagle Heights and check out the hang gliders, quite a colourful site. Visit the quaint village of Tamborine and drop into one of the many craft or coffee shops and just go for a stroll along the Gallery Walk. If you are feeling more energetic why not go for a bushwalk to one of the many lookouts in the area. My suggestion would be either the Curtis Falls or Witches Falls bushwalks which are quite spectacular when there is water cascading over the falls.
There are also quite a few wineries including the Cedar Creek Estate Winery, it has a purposely built cave which houses local glow worms, you can go on a tour where they explain about the glow worm life cycle and show you inside the glow worm cave, I took my children and thought that it was quite educational for them.

Mount Warning
If you like bushwalking I would recommend going to Mount Warning situated around 15 kms from Murwillumbah (an easy to hour drive from the Gold Coast). The drive is quite scenic through the many sugar cane plantations and past the working sugar mill. The walk to the top of Mount Warning takes around 5 hours return approx 4.4 kms each way, however be prepared this is a strenuous walk with a lot of steps and a very steep rope climb right at the top. However when you reach the top the views are spectacular and well worth the climb. If you are not that way inclined you could walk part of the way through the rainforest or take a very short 500m walk. A very scenic way to return would be through the Currumbin Valley, just take the turnoff to Currumbin at Murwillumbah.

Lamington National Park
Discover the green behind the gold around an hours drive from Canungra you will discover the natural side of the Gold Coast at O’Reillys. On the road to O’Reillys is the Canungra Valley Vineyards which is home to a platypus in the stream behind the Vineyards. At O’Reillys take one of the 160kms of graded walking tracks where you will discover waterfalls, spectacular lookouts and enchanting rainforest environments. Whilst at O’Reillys done forget to take a walk on the famous tree top walk a suspended walkway 20 metres above the forest floor. Also while youre there you can feed the native lorikeets and beautiful parrots.
