Fleas and Ticks are most active in the rainy months of April and May. This year however the rain keeps falling, thus extending the season!

Your “best friend” depends on you to keep him happy and healthy! You may think that your puppy or dog is free of fleas and ticks, but every time you take him out to potty or for his walk he is at risk of picking up a “flealoader” sorry I couldn’t resist. Vets recommend using a topical treatment all year around. I know many people choose not to use Flea and tick treatment in the winter to save money, but I feel spending the money definitely outweighs the risk of your beloved canine getting and sharing them with your other pets and throughout your home. It is your responsibility as a puppy or dog owner to provide for their basic needs. Keeping him free of fleas and ticks should be one of the first ways you protect and insure your pet’s health and comfort!

A flea is an insect usually picked up and carried from an infested yard or home by people or animals. A flea has four stages in its life cycle.
Stage 1. Eggs
Stage 2. Larvae,
Stage 3. Pupa,
Stage 4. Adult.

Fleas can lay up to 50 eggs every day and since it only takes two weeks to eight months to complete the cycle from an egg to an adult they multiply very rapidly! In just 30 days, ten female fleas under ideal conditions can multiply to over a quarter million different life stages! One flea bite can make your puppy or dog sick! It only takes one bite to cause an allergic reaction and/or possibly infect your furry friend with dangerous, life threatening tapeworms! Stop the life cycle of fleas!

A tick is an arachnid. It is a blood feeding parasite found in tall grasses. Ticks have four stages in its two year life cycle.
Stage 1 eggs
Stage 2 larvae
Stage 3 nymph
Stage 4 adult

When an adult tick feeds off the host it can “swell” up to ten times the original size and a hundred times the original weight. Amazingly one engorged tick can lay thousands of eggs! One tick bite can infect your puppy or dog with dangerous diseases such as Lyme disease which is the most common. Ticks can also transmit diseases to humans. Stop the life cycle of ticks!

The three easiest ways to prevent an infestation
1. Protect your puppy or dog with a topical treatment
2. Vacuum your home and clean pets bedding, blankets and toys often in hot water
3. Keep your grass cut and free of leaves and underbrush

Fleas and ticks are most active in warm wet months, but remember they can be picked up year round! This year is wetter than normal so they are going to still be very active in June this year! To eliminate an infestation takes endless cleaning, vacuuming, fogging, or expensive extermination fees! Preventing an infestation is a lot easier than eliminating one. Above all else keeping your family and pet happy and healthy is the main objective!
